Indy Daily Photo #2: Fall Creek Greenway

Although Indy Parks calls the Fall Creek Trail their 'vintage' trail, until now the 2 mile stretch from 56th Street to Skiles Test Nature Park (just west of Fall Creek & Shadeland) has been on-road -- hardly a 'trail' at all. Now, the Parks Dept is extending the Greenway northeast from 56th Street. Parts of the trail will be very close to the water's edge. Lots of wildlife can be seen along the shore of Fall Creek and in the adjacent wetlands, so this should be a great place to walk when finished. If you look closely in the bottom right corner of the photo, you can see hoofprints. Looks like someone couldn't wait for the paving to be completed.

Construction is due to complete in October. For information on the Fall Creek trail, see IndyGreenways.org. Check out the Master Plan link for an interesting history of Parks and Greenways in Indianapolis since the late 1800's. There are also maps of trails and bikepaths in the city, a calendar of Pedal & Park days, and information regarding how greenways not only enhance city living, but also contribute to conservation efforts.
